POLICY REVIEWTo help navigate your organization's complaint system, a Responder reviews the complaint process and where you are in that process. If available, it's helpful to have any Employee Handbook or other related contracts or documents.
Please note: Our services should not be considered legal advice as we are not (all) attorneys. Background photo is a blue painted brick wall with strips of peeled paper postings in Spanish.
|
REVIEW OF FACTSA Responder reviews the information and documentation you provide and applies The Equity Consortium's community-created standardized processes (definitions, remedies, timelines, requirements...). Our trained Responders default to believe you, the person affected by harm. If the community-created framework finds ANY evidence of harm, your Responder moves ahead to negotiation.
Please note: Our services should not be considered legal advice as we are not (all) attorneys. Background photo is layers of blue tile brick, volcanic slab, and ceramic lattice in terracotta.
|
NEGOTIATE SETTLEMENTBased on all known facts and accounting for what you require to feel whole, the Responder engages in direct negotiation with a single representative of organization to settle your matter with the least amount of disruption possible, including the humane and efficient use of time. If the result is not satisfactory, we assist in preparing a claim with the appropriate agency and referral to an attorney.
Please note: Our services should not be considered legal advice as we are not (all) attorneys. Background photo is of oval bells, each in their own cubby with all columns being the same color.

WHY IT WORKS...
Employers create their own justice systems.Because employers are able to create their own complaint system policies, they vary from organization to organization, city to city, state to state. Currently, there are limited national laws in the United States that govern how organizations write those policies. [Except the mandatory EEOC statement.] Because these organizational systems are self-governed, we are able to serve as advocates and not attorneys.

An attorney is not always necessary. It's a challenge to find an attorney willing to represent you without the likelihood of winning a million-dollar lawsuit: They deserve fair compensation for their expertise and actual hours. And while it feels like it is, most of our experiences dealing with complaint systems are not million dollar cases. This leaves most of us without the benefit of advocacy or representation for actual harm caused.

We create humane systems that work.We chose to honor the whole person and created our own framework to determine equitable practices.
It's hard to prove intention. We choose to focus on the impact on the person harmed.
Anyone can harass or be harassed. We help all people no matter their personal identity.
Intersectionality of identity is overlooked. We honor the complexity of identity and dynamic history.

The mutual benefit of settlement is real and achievable. We appreciate the mutual benefit of swiftly settling your matter outside of the court system, giving an easy avenue to relief for both you and the organization. We reduce the organization's liability and uncertainty while satisfying your right for fair treatment at work. And, our Responders' trusted position in community of advocates ensures we are equitable and fair in our assessment of facts and needs.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:
|
Your PeopleWe believe that the less number of people involved, the better. You deserve confidentiality.
Does my demographic identity matter?
Yes, and no. Anyone can experience harassment, intimidation, or retaliation regardless of the body we are born into. Discrimination is more readily defined by existing laws and usually includes elements of personal demographic identity such as race or gender. The Equity Consortium is committed to supporting equity for all, regardless of the intersections of one's personal identity. That's Equity! Do I have the ability to chose my Representative?
Our Responders are all equally trained in how to implement our resolution process and strive to represent you as they would have liked to be represented. The Equity Consortium has a roster of trained Responders who have personal, lived experience. All are trained to default to belief, and find personal satisfaction in providing unparalleled attention and support. If you are not satisfied, another Responder will be assigned, no questions asked. Who will be involved from the organization?
We believe in only interacting with a single representative from the organization, often the final decision maker, whether that be the Executive Director, attorney, or Human Resources. Again, we believe the less number of people involved, the better and will not contact anyone involved without your explicit consent. |
WHAT FOLKS ARE SAYING..."I am definitely feeling more free and aligned! I have traveled to a lot of different cities since leaving. I went to New York two times, LA, Chicago, Boston, and Richmond VA. It was so fun and needed! I'm trying to figure out what's next for me." "Thank you for your guidance through this process." "i’m glad things are easing up hopefully. i’m trusting the process, so whatever we have to do is fine with me." |
